Neighborhood Watch Tuesday Tip: School Bus Safety

Hello Neighbors!

Today begins a new segment brought to you by your Neighborhood Watch Committee.  Each Tuesday, we will post tips to keep you safe in your home and in your neighborhood.  These tips will also be posted monthly in the Newsletter, so keep an eye out.

Today’s tip is about School Bus Safety

On Monday, Aug. 26, students will begin classes at all Hays CISD campuses.

The safety of children getting on and off the bus is a top priority for our school district and there are several traffic laws to enforce this safety. Violation of these laws can result in a citation and fine. Some basic rules about bus safety include:

  • Vehicles must stop when the external red warning lights are flashing and the stop signal arms are extended.
  • Vehicles may not pass until the flashing red lights and signals are turned off.
  • Never pass on the right side of the bus, where children enter or exit.

Drivers are urged to honor school zones and remember that cell phone use is prohibited in all school zones. Student transportation officials encourage parents to discuss school bus safety tips with their children.
