To All of Our Neighbors:

With Spring’s arrival came the much needed rain. It was wonderful to see the beautiful yards that many of our residents have taken so much time, energy, and pride in that helps make our little community beautiful. So much so, that it has been difficult to figure out who to nominate for the Yard of the Month. We invite everyone to nominate your own yard, a neighbor’s, or even a house you just happened to drive by that makes you think, “Wow, that yard looks great.” Send all of your nominations to waterleafyardofthemonth@gmail.com . By doing so, we think you being a part of the decisions that are made will help bring a sense of community here in Waterleaf Falls.

Another way you can help make decisions for Waterleaf Falls is by participating in our Governing Documents Review Task Force. As our time with KB Homes nears an end, it is time that we take a close look at some of the needed changes and updates to our Governing Documents. We invite you to review our current bylaws and DCCRs and contact the Task Force at waterleafbylaws@gmail.com with changes you feel are important to help keep the integrity of this community.

Also, don’t forget that school will be coming to a close during the first week of June. This means we will have children running around the neighborhood, riding their bicycles, skateboarding, and families walking to the swimming pool. We ask that you help protect our children and neighbors by being an attentive driver, obeying the speed limit and stopping at stop signs. Please help us keep all of our children and neighbors safe this summer.

As always, keep an eye on our calendar here in the newsletter for all of the great events happening around our neighborhood. We also hope you have a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you cooling off at the pool!

Neighborhood Watch Sidewalk Coloring Night

Everyone is encouraged to go out in front of their home and chalk it up for safety! Bring your family outside, design sidewalk art with a safety message and pictures. Then take a stroll through the neighborhood and see the masterpieces! Another way to say “hello” and meet your neighbors! Kyle PD and Kyle FD have been invited to come by the neighborhood if they have time to visit the neighborhood. Have fun!

Keep our Neighborhood Safe!

Hays CISD’s last day of school is Wednesday, June 3rd which means many neighborhood children will be out enjoying their summer break. Each of us is responsible for the safety of ourselves and our neighbors.

Drivers

Obey all traffic laws
Be sure to come to a complete stop at stop signs and do not speed. The speed limit here is 30 MPH.

Watch for children
Keep an eye out for children playing outside. Watch out for bikes, balls, skateboards and other toys that may fly into the road.

No distracted driving
Kyle does not have a hands-free ordinance, but we should all be sure to put the phone down when driving for our safety and the safety of others.

Pedestrians

Be street smart
Look both ways before crossing the street. Move out of the way quickly when vehicles are approaching.

Know where your children are
Make sure you and your kids have a system in place for checking in or be sure to stay close for supervision.

Use common courtesy
Be careful when outside not to disrupt neighbors’ lawns or lawn decor. Pick up after yourself and your pets.

Stay hydrated
Texas summers are HOT. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.

Thank you!

PawsShelterandHumaneSocietySmallWe extend a huge thanks to PAWS of Central Texas right here in Kyle for their help and support during our pet microchipping event last month. It was a great success and we were able to help many neighbors ensure that they will be reunited with their pets in the event they are lost. Thank you to all of the individuals who volunteered their time to help with this event as well.

As a reminder, our Waterleaf Pet volunteers do keep a database of pet photos and owner contact information as another way to help pets get back home. If you would like to be added, email a photo of your pet and your contact information to waterleafpets@gmail.com

Water Safety Tips

Pool season is in full swing and as the temperatures rise, so will the pool traffic. Take time now to prepare your family for their visit to the pool. Water safety is extremely important to help prevent drowning and other incidents. Here is great guide from the YMCA.

We have had a lot of fun at these informal get togethers!

Kyle Police Department Vacation Watch Program

Summer is here which means many are planning vacation(s). Unfortunately, thieves will be on the lookout for homes that appear vacant for a period of time. If you are planning to be out-of-town for an extended amount of time, in addition to asking a neighbor you trust to keep an eye on your house, you can notify the Kyle Police Department and they will check on your residence or business for up to ten consecutive days while you are away. If you will be gone longer than that, you can fill out a subsequent request. Simply fill out a Vacation Watch Form which can be found at: cityofkyle.com/police/vacation-watch-program

Some safety tips from KPD:

  • Have an alarm installed even if you choose not to have it monitored. Burglars will not stay if an alarm is going off.
  • Stop all deliveries or arrange for a trusted neighbor to pick up your mail, newspapers, and packages.
  • Have a neighbor place garbage cans at the curb on your normal pickup day and return them after the garbage pickup is made.
  • Let your neighbors know when you will be gone. Have them call the police if there is any suspicious activity.
  • Ask a neighbor to occasionally park in your driveway.

Neighborhood Watch

Hello Neighbors!

Neighborhood Watch held its first BBQ of the summer this past month. Presentations were given on crime trends in Kyle and the central Texas area comparing Kyle’s stats to the central area. Tips were given on how to safeguard both our homes and ourselves. An overall agenda was given on the purpose of NW and what the future plans are. Thank you to Alex Martinez, and Rick and Nola Plumb who volunteered to help from set up to clean up and everything in between!

The Neighborhood Watch Committee is looking for a volunteer to join the team. Please let us know if you are interested! Email us at waterleafneighborhoodwatch@gmail.com

Block Captains

A call out for Block Captains was given and we received 8 volunteers. Note that those volunteering on the longer roads are only responsible for about 10 – 12 homes on their streets. Continue to volunteer if you live on those please. Take the time to meet your Captain if they are on your street and remember with the number of homes we have here, we need many more. Please volunteer, we need YOU!
